Hindu Voices for Peace (HVP), an India-based network of Hindus, has issued this statement in both English and Hindi, in solidarity with interfaith peace activist Faisal Khan, National Convener of Khudai Kidmatgar. Faisal Bhai is an advisory board member of Hindus for Human Rights, and we are extremely concerned that he is in prison and has tested positive for Covid. Faisal Bhai did not commit any crime — he was imprisoned in Mathura for doing namaz (Muslim prayers) in a Hindu temple, with the permission of the Hindu priest — and we are calling for his immediate release. We welcome this strong and unequivocal gesture of support from a visionary group of Hindus in India.
