Dear Friend,

In February we celebrated Shivaratri and thus as the month ends we remember Lal Ded, the 14th-century Shaiva mystic poet of Kashmir. Venerated by both Hindus and Muslims and acclaimed as one of the earliest contributors to Kashmir literature, her vakhs (verses) are inspirational for us.

February has been a month of introspection and brainstorming for us in terms of expanding our work. Over the past month, we've also continued our advocacy for pluralism, civil rights, and human rights for all in a number of fields.  Read on to learn more!

Inspired by traditional Hindu devotional calendars you may be familiar with, this 2023 calendar celebrates progressive interpretations of our traditions, challenging conventional depictions of Hindu deities and sacred narratives. Let this beautiful calendar adorn your wall this year!

Fight against Hindutva
A special screening of the two-part BBC documentary titled 'India, the Modi Question' was organized by Columbia School of Journalism along with a riveting panel discussion featuring our ED Sunita Viswanath. We also cosponsored several screenings of the documentary, including a recent screening hosted by Ambedkar King Study Circle in the Bay Area (pictured below).
Black x South Asian Solidarity for
Black History Month
This month, we shared several examples of the history of Black and South Asian solidarity, and South Asians reckoning with racial justice in the United States. We hope these resources will spark some discussions about why we must extend solidarity to other communities, especially the Black community, as we work towards advancing global justice and liberation.
