Hindus for Human Rights ANZ at the Anti-Caste Symposium: Intersections of Caste, Class, and Identity
Hindus for Human Rights Australia & New Zealand (HfHR ANZ) joined advocates, academics, and activists for a landmark event in Melbourne: the Anti-Caste Symposium — “Understanding Caste Discrimination in the Diaspora: Building Dialogues and Allyship,” convened by Dr. Vikrant Kishore, an academic, filmmaker, and journalist.
HfHR ANZ proudly served as a sponsor and participant in this important gathering, which explored caste discrimination as a lived reality in the South Asian diaspora and sought to build meaningful allyship and solidarity across communities.
Our own Nandini Sen Mehra, representing Hindus for Human Rights ANZ, moderated the session on “Intersections of Caste, Class, and Identity in Womxn’s Liberation Movements.” The panel featured Dr. Ali Saha, Madhu Kishore, and Minakshi Salave, who spoke about the lived experiences of Dalit identity through the lens of childhood, work, and social life in both India and Australia.
Throughout the symposium, participants highlighted how casteism continues to shape diasporic experiences and discussed the need for inclusive feminism, media representation, and cross-movement solidarity to dismantle caste-based discrimination globally.
HfHR ANZ remains deeply committed to confronting caste discrimination, challenging exclusionary narratives, and advancing equality through Dalit-led and Ambedkarite partnerships.
