Sparking Debate, Sparking Change: Join Our Conversation in the House of Lords

HfHR UK is thrilled to share that the Baroness’ question asked in Parliament this past Thursday went extremely well. Her comment sparked a debate in the House of Lords about recent Indian legislation, including the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), sedition law, Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), and the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

This event marked a major advocacy victory for Hindus for Human Rights UK. We plan to build on the momentum from this remarkable occasion; Baroness D’Souza informed us that she would speak to the individuals who engaged in debate to ensure the conversation on Indian democracy continues. From here, we plan on building a group of interested peers, with whom we hope to continue parliamentary efforts on this topic; for example, we hope to hold another, more substantive debate in the House of Lords in the coming months.

It’s important to note that much of the impactful work Parliament accomplishes occurs behind closed doors. The fact that we, HfHR UK, got our foot into the door at Parliament means we are creating a ripple effect towards change for human rights in India.

HfHR UK would like to take a moment to personally thank each and every one of you for supporting the work that HfHR has accomplished so far. It is your support that has helped us get a seat at the negotiating table – whether that’s in the White House of the Houses of Parliament, the United States or the United Kingdom, India or the global diaspora.

HfHR UK is currently at a major turning point in our advocacy work following the Parliamentary comment. We must take advantage of the buzz created by the recent Parliamentary debate to continue our advocacy. We kindly ask you to donate to Hindus for Human Rights to support this cause. Any amount helps; whether it's £5 or £50, your donation helps us work towards a fairer, more democratic, and more inclusive India.
