Condemning the Strikes on Iran: A Hindu Commitment to Ahimsa and Human Rights

As the United States and Israel launch strikes on Iran, the human toll is already devastating. Hundreds of people in Iran and surrounding countries have reportedly died, and civilians across the region now face the threat of further violence, displacement, and repression. In moments like these, clarity and moral grounding are essential.

Below is a video message from Sravya Tadepalli, Deputy Executive Director of Hindus for Human Rights, speaking to this escalation and our collective responsibility to resist the normalization of war.

Hi, I'm Sravya Tadepalli, Deputy Executive Director of Hindus for Human Rights.

As the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran and hundreds of people in Iran and surrounding countries have died, Hindus for Human Rights condemns the escalation and rejects war as a pathway to security.

In the U.S., decisions of this magnitude should not be made without democratic accountability and public debate.

We stand with the people of Iran and with civilians everywhere in the region who face the gravest risk of violence, displacement, and repression in moments like these.

We will continue to speak with a strong Hindu voice for de-escalation, ahimsa, and human rights.

May all beings be safe. Om Shanti.

At Hindus for Human Rights, we believe that faith traditions must not be marshaled to sanctify violence or justify unchecked power. Instead, they can call us back to first principles: the sanctity of life, the necessity of democratic process, and the moral courage required to interrupt cycles of retaliation.

War is often framed as inevitable. It is not. It is chosen. And choices—especially those that cost lives across borders—demand transparency, accountability, and public debate.

We stand in solidarity with civilians in Iran and throughout the region who bear the heaviest burden of geopolitical decisions made far from their homes. We also affirm that in the United States, democratic oversight is not a technicality; it is a safeguard against the normalization of endless war.

As a Hindu organization rooted in human rights, we will continue to advocate for de-escalation and for policies grounded in ahimsa—nonviolence not as passivity, but as principled resistance to harm.

May all beings be safe.
Om Shanti.
