Washington, D.C. — October 14, 2025 — Hindus for Human Rights calls for the release of Ladakhi activist and educator Sonam Wanghuck, who was arrested under the draconian National Security Act. Wangchuk was arrested on September 26, 2025, while he was traveling to Leh to address a crowd in response to a deadly crackdown on protests in Ladakh. As reported by Reuters, police killed four people and injured more than seventy others in the worst unrest in Ladakh since 1980. Hindus for Human Rights affirms Ladakhis’ right to self-determination, including the demand for tribal self-governance of Ladakh, and their fundamental right to freedom of expression.
