Dear {{FirstName or "Friend"}},
This week, Hindus for Human Rights took an important step to defend the future of religious freedom in the United States.
On February 9, we joined a multifaith coalition alongside Interfaith Alliance, Muslims for Progressive Values, andSikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund to file a federal lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s so-called “Religious Liberty Commission.”
We joined this lawsuit because our dharma compelled us to do so.
In this lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York , we challenge the creation and operation of a commission that claims to defend religious liberty for all Americans while being composed almost entirely of members who represent a narrow Judeo-Christian worldview.
There are no representatives of Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism, or nonreligious Americans on this body.
No interfaith voices. No communities that have actually experienced some of the most pernicious forms of religious discrimination in this country.
And yet this Commission has been tasked with producing a comprehensive report and advising the White House on national religious liberty policy.
That report is intended to guide federal policy for years to come.
This is not religious freedom. This is religious favoritism.
If this Commission’s work goes unchallenged, it will produce recommendations that privilege one religious framework and marginalize you.
That is why HfHR is at the table.
We are fighting for Hindu Americans at the highest levels of American power. We are standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Muslims, Sikhs, progressive Christians, Jews, and others because we know this truth:
Religious liberty for some is religious liberty for none.
Hindus for Human Rights is proud to stand in this fight
But legal action at this level requires resources. Monitoring the Commission. Showing up to court. Educating policymakers. Mobilizing our community. Taking on the US government.
If you believe in a pluralistic America we need your support now.
Will you make a gift today to help Hindus for Human Rights continue this vital work?
