MOOD India Pride 2025
In the spirit of Pride Month, we asked young people in Delhi about equality for queer people in Delhi. And they answered overwhelmingly with heart-warming compassion and love for their community.
“In a country like India, everyone has the right to equality,” one student said. If they love each other and are happy with each other, we accept them, their friends chimed in, nodding with agreement.
Another young person, in a tender show of empathy, expressed that acceptance and normalization requires intentional action from community members. If someone comes out to you, “don’t get too shocked or surprised, don’t show them that it is a big issue,” they said. “That’s the best way to normalize it, I think.”
“[If someone belongs to the LGBTQ community], why would we make them feel guilty and discriminate? If someone is taking a stand for themselves, it’s good (...) we should support them,” another person said.
The younger generation is standing up and speaking out. Will you join them?
