Transgender Day of Remembrance: Honoring Lives, Refusing Silence

Today, on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we pause to honor the trans and gender-expansive people whose lives were taken by violence, discrimination, and systemic neglect. This day is not only about mourning; it is about insisting that every one of these lives mattered — that they were loved, complex, full of possibility, and deserving of safety and dignity.

Across communities and traditions, we are called to uphold the sanctity of life. Yet trans people continue to face targeted hate, barriers to healthcare, criminalization, homelessness, and political efforts to erase their existence. Remembering those we have lost demands that we confront these structures honestly and commit to transforming them.

Remembrance is not passive. It is a practice of solidarity — a promise to protect those still living, to challenge the forces that enable violence, and to build a world where trans people are not merely tolerated, but celebrated, affirmed, and free.
