New York, NY (July 10, 2025) - Over two dozen community organizations from across New York City and State have penned a letter to Eric Adams expressing their shock and dismay over his decision to attend an event featuring Hindu supremacist leader Kajal Hindustani.
“As the mayor of this city, it is your duty to ensure that bigotry and supremacist politics are challenged rather than endorsed. By extending your support to an event featuring Kajal Hindustani, a supremacist demagogue who has called for the genocide of Muslims and Christians in India, you have yet again failed to do the due diligence that your mayoral office requires,” the letter began.
The letter, signed by a wide diversity of interfaith and multiracial organizations, described to Mayor Adams that Kajal Hindustani, or Kajal Singhala, owns the dubious record of giving more hate speeches in 2023 than any other Hindu supremacist figure, according to India Hate Lab. It also informed him of her role in spreading conspiracy theories such as the infamous "love jihad" theory, for inciting Hindus to take up arms against Christians and Muslims, whom she has called "parasites," and for calling for an economic boycott against non-Hindus. Hindustani’s rhetoric has led to several charges of incitement of violence and hate speech lodged against her.
The letter demanded to Mayor Adams that he
- Immediately withdraw from the event featuring Kajal Hindustani at the Gujarati Samaj Hall on July 16th.
- Condemn Kajal Hindustani’s bigotry and assert that it has no place in New York City.
- Apologize to New York’s Indian Muslim, Sikh, Dalit, and Christian communities for his insensitivity, and commit his office to a training on Hindu supremacy and its manifestations in the diaspora.
The letter also urged other co-sponsoring organizations to withdraw their support for this supremacist event immediately. Signatories to the letter will also hold a press conference on the steps of City Hall at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, July 15, urging Mayor Eric Adams to immediately withdraw from the event. The letter, with a full list of signatories, is listed below.
Dear Mayor Adams,
We are appalled that you have yet again decided to support Hindu supremacist bigotry in New York City. As the mayor of this city, it is your duty to ensure that bigotry and supremacist politics are challenged rather than endorsed. By extending your support to an event featuring Kajal Hindustani, a supremacist demagogue who has called for the genocide of Muslims and Christians in India, you have yet again failed to do the due diligence that your mayoral office requires. In 2024, you endorsed a supremacist display of victory with the Ram Temple in New York, and only withdrew your endorsement at the last minute. Now, you’re doing it again.
Kajal Hindustani, or Kajal Singhala, owns the dubious record of giving more hate speeches in 2023 than any other Hindu supremacist figure, according to India Hate Lab. She is infamous for spreading conspiracy theories such as the "love jihad" theory, for inciting Hindus to take up arms against Christians and Muslims, whom she has called "parasites," and for calling for an economic boycott against non-Hindus. She was booked by police for hate speech that incited violence against Muslims at a Ram Navami event in Gujarat’s Una, but has continued unabated, delivering 23 hate speeches in 2024.
We, the undersigned organizations, representing the full diversity of New York City's Indian and South Asian communities, demand that you:
-
Immediately withdraw your participation in the event featuring Kajal Hindustani at the Gujarati Samaj Hall on July 16th.
- Condemn Kajal Hindustani’s bigotry and assert that it has no place in New York City.
-
Apologize to New York’s Indian Muslim, Christian, Sikh and Dalit communities for your insensitivity, and commit your office to a training on Hindu supremacy and its manifestations in the diaspora.
We also urge other co-sponsoring organizations to withdraw their support for this supremacist event immediately.
Sincerely,
