Untouchable, Laughing out Caste: A Campus Screening that Turned Laughter into Dialogue

This week’s collaboration with University of Maryland, SARI DC, American University, and Khush DC brought a full house together for Untouchable, Laughing out Caste—the feature documentary following comedian Manjeet Sarkar’s journey using stand-up to confront caste, class, and everyday realities. The screening was followed by a virtual Q&A with co-directors Manjeet Sarkar and Mike Noone, who spoke about crafting humor from lived experience and why anti-caste action requires both courage and community.

What made the evening special wasn’t just the jokes—it was the way laughter opened the room for a deeper, practical conversation. Students and community members shared what “active anti-caste” looks like on campus and beyond: naming caste when we talk about equity, supporting caste-oppressed voices, and insisting that inclusion policies explicitly protect against caste discrimination.
