What should Hinduism’s role in public life look like in a constitutional democracy?
On October 31 in New Delhi, a new platform called Hinduism in Public Life (HIPL) will launch with an evening of discussion and debate featuring scholars, jurists, writers, thinkers, and young voices.
The evening includes a debate on the motion:
“This House Believes That the Constitution Should Not Regulate Hindu Temples.”
We’re also glad that Seeing Equally: An Anthology of Progressive Hindu Voices will be available at the event.
For those of us committed to a Hinduism rooted in equality, pluralism, and democratic values, these are important questions. Public conversations about Hindu institutions should make room for serious debate about accountability, constitutional protections, religious freedom, and who gets to define the relationship between faith and the state.
