Experience an extraordinary evening of qawwali with Ustad Fareed Ayaz & Abu Muhammad Qawwal Brothers, presented by Vagabond Media at Symphony Space.

For XTC, three generations of one of qawwali’s great musical families come together onstage. The evening begins with Ghayoor Moiz Qawwal & Brothers and Mustafa Abu Muhammad Qawwal & Brothers meeting in Jawabi Qawwali, a musical exchange in which singers challenge and answer one another through poetry and song. The elder masters then join them for a full-family performance.

The evening is especially significant because Ustad Fareed Ayaz has announced his retirement, making this a possible farewell performance in New York.

At a moment when religious identity is too often used to divide communities, qawwali offers another inheritance: devotion expressed through poetry, love, longing, music, and traditions shared across South Asia.
