For many in the Desi diaspora, the Hindu festival season from Janmashtami and Ganesh Chaturthi through Navaratri and Diwali is a joyful time of gathering and celebration.
For some LGBTQ+ people and their families, however, the season can also bring feelings of isolation, especially when participating fully and authentically in religious and family spaces feels difficult.
Join Dr. Raja Gopal Bhattar (they/them) for an intergenerational, inclusive satsangh exploring the spiritual healing that can be found in the Hindu festival season.
Through affirming prayer, practice, and reflection, Dr. Bhattar will center faith, love, peace, and community through a Hindu framework, while asking how we can reconnect with the deeper meaning of the season in ways that help us feel whole and supported.
Dr. Bhattar comes from a long lineage of Sri Vaishnava pujaris and vidwans from South India. Born in India and raised in Hindu temples across the United States, they are trained in Hindu and Buddhist spiritual and scriptural traditions, as well as interfaith studies. A genderqueer educator, author, and leadership consultant, they work to reclaim progressive, feminist, and inclusive perspectives on Hinduism, Sanatana Dharma, and Vedic ritual.
Registration is required.
